Our objective with this club was to facilitate the interaction and training of the multi-sport (Triathlon, Duathlon, Aquathlon, Xterra, Trail Running and Adventure Racing) athletes in the Central CT area. Our first thought was to build the website and folks would find each other and get some uniforms to help with the recognition. We have been operating a few years and realize that the members want more organized training and that the uniform demand occurs throughout the year. We set out to improve and found that we run very close to the edge in a financial sense.
The dues used to pay for T-Shirts, shipping, reduced price training activities, reduced price uniforms, Corporate fees (Non-Profit Corporation), club banners, club tent, and website costs. In order to start club activities, we have now added insurance at a cost of $6 per member. We have wanted to order extra uniforms each year and have enough money to pay upfront for the swimming pool access and spinning, but we have not had enough buffer even before the insurance costs. With this increase, we should be able to have a surplus so that the board members won't have to front their own money (>$3000) to get a uniform order moving. We will be able to buy a few extras for those folks who join after the winter order period.
We expect to sponsor some clinics or training in addition to the swimming and spinning we already do. We would love to have members propose and organize training events in their own area and will support those that make sense for the club. We are in preliminary discussions with other CT clubs to try to get a CT series up and running again and we are also looking at how we can get involved in races as club races like other state clubs are doing. The increase will give us the flexibility to commit to these things with confidence.
So you as a member will get the value of increased access to events, training and club "shwag". We will be able to respond when opportunities come up for club participation. We are also working through some more merchandise discounts for members only. I just got my new Rudy Project shades and they are awesome!
We do a financial accounting and discussion at each of the monthly meetings. Club members are always welcome at these meeting so look for the announcement on the forum. The next meeting will be on 1/7/07 at the Hooker Brewery in Bloomfield. Feedback on the finances or any other club topics is welcome and appreciated. Send them to me at
