The meeting was called to order at 6:45 pm. Items discussed included:
1. HEAT Leadership (officers and board members) - formal roles and responsibilities for each board position will be posted to the website over the next few weeks. The board will establish terms for each office and also a formal nomination process to ensure proper rotation of existing board members and new board members is in place on a go forward basis. Jamie Sullivan has agreed to take on the President role for a 1 year term. We will be looking for members to fill the Programs Director, Sponsorship Director positions as well. If you are interested, please send the secretary (Erica Dinner) an email at: ddinner@comcast.net. Some board members may approach members to ask them about participating on the board as well. The club cannot continue to run without members stepping up to fill these roles.
2. HEAT Programs:
a. Swim - waiting to hear back from Cornerstone to confirm availability of lanes for Sunday afternoon swim session. Jamie will follow up with Cornerstone this week. Another swim option is at Central Connecticut State University - a Masters program, on Sundays, is scheduled to start in early November. This will be a drop in, pay as you go or punch card program, not sponsored or administered by the HEAT, but available for anyone to drop in. More details will be posted to the HEAT website in the next week or so.
b. Spinning - indoor spinning at Winding Trails will be offered again on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. More information about how to sign up and pay will be posted on the website in November/December.
3. Membership Report - we have 145 active members.
4. Treasurer Report - We have ample funds in the bank which will used to pay the annual insurance premium (insurance required for certain programs), as well as upfront deposit costs for uniform and t-shirt orders.
5. Sponsorship Report - the club anticipates having only one gold sponsor for this coming year, which is Newington Bike Shop. The other sponsors (at the Silver and/or Bronze levels) are: Midas in Canton and Malibu Fitness. Continue to check the HEAT site for offers from these sponsors.
6. Other Miscellaneous - at the next HEAT meeting we will be looking at the TRI calendar for next season in an effort to develop "event/in season" training programs targeted towards specific races to include all distances. All are welcome to participate in this discussion and support any program that comes out of this meeting.
