Hello Folks,
I have recently started a new venture to build a swimming performance monitor (SPM).
There will be two SPM products; SPM-Basic and SPM-Pro. The SPM-Basic will be a single sleek (stopwatch-like) wearable device that automatically captures speed, distance, lap count, and stroke count. The SPM-Pro will contain two wearable devices (one of which is the SPM-Basic) and will provide detailed insight into technique and form (i.e. body roll, arm recovery position, length of time in glide, elbow position during catch and pull) as well as an efficiency, intensity, and power scoring.
In addition, you will be able to upload your data from the devices to either our custom online training log or TrainingPeaks.
The name of our company is SwimSense and can be found at SwimSense.com. We are targeting the end of Q1 or beginning of Q2 time period for our initial product release and will be showing the product at the 2009 MultiSport World Expo in Cambridge MA.
I am writing to ask for your help in two areas.
(1) In order to make sure we are building the devices with the right functionality at the right price point, we have been distributing a survey to swimmers and triathletes to solicit their feedback. I am hoping that you will take 5-10 minutes to do the same as your input is valuable to us and key to building the right solutions.
As a small incentive, every 200 folks that complete the survey will will be entered to win a free iPod. We currently have around 190 completed surveys....so we will be drawing for the first iPod with just 10 more entrants. The survey link can be found on our home page on www.swimsense.com
(2) We are looking for some folks to wear our test device so that we can collect data across a wide range of swimmers with different abilities and technique. This will help us build and tune our software algorithms. We would only need each swimmer to swim about 200-400 yards. This is not a test nor will you have to set any records
We are just looking for you to swim at your chosen training pace using the freestyle stroke. Perhaps this could be done at the beginning of
a workout at our Sunday evening Cornerstone swims. If you are interested, please email me at john@swimsense.com.
Thanks in advance for your time and feedback!!! We are excited about the direction we are going in but we definitely want to here from athletes like yourselves to keep us focused on building the right performance monitor.
