If anyone has the chance to do this race next year, do it. It might just be a sprint, but it felt like woodstock with all the action. There was a great lineup
of pro/elites with jarrod shoemaker, dede greisbauer, karen smyers and a ton of others. Crowds were throughout the entire course and made it very exciting.
This race was my first jump into an elite wave and it was definitely interesting! I knew my age group wave was going last, and with a field of over 800 I knew the course would get clogged up, so I decided to jump into the first wave since I was confident I wouldnt come in LAST place in the elite category of around 45 athletes. The 400y swim started with a run from the beach into the waves and was a choppy swim and pretty foggy, and made sighting tough but finished with a 5:38 split. The bike was hilly and packed with alot of turns and was very hard to settle in. I was alone most of the bike and got passed by 2 guys. I had the 56th fastest bike time at 31:47 for the 12.5 miles, which is unusual because I usually have one of the fastest bike splits and felt really slow with no 5th gear to drive it into. Im sure there was a ton of drafting out there. I got off the bike and for once in my life passed 5 or so people on the run including Karen Smyers, which was pretty cool! Ended the day with the 14th overall run at 19:52 for 3.3 miles, another rarity for me to have a strong run, but alot of offseason work and a great coach as well as great crowd support go a long way. Finished in 28th overall and would have won my age group by a couple of minutes. It was great to be able to race against olympic athlete jarrod shoemaker, Karen Smyers, Dede Greisbauer and Janda Ricci-Munn (my coach) along with the rest of the stacked field. If you have a chance, check out the results and race website:

Is anyone doing Rhode Island next weekend?
Cheers,
