I started off the day riding into Hartford by bike (30 miles) to participate in the 2008 "RACE FOR THE CURE". The day started cool with lots of
ground fog so riding was a bit iffy but non-eventfull. Arrived in Hartford at 8AM and had to get ready for the 8:30 race start. After a quick change at the gym
(TCC) I ran down to the park, grabbed my chip and got in line. I met up with Gabe and Ray and after a brief chat the gun sounded. Gabe was off like shot with
Ray in quick pursuit. I on the other hand tried to keep up only to find that sometimes the body won't do what the brain wants. So with legs like noodles I
settled into a pace that would see me thru this 5K. At about the 1 mile mark Jamie Sullivan passes by shouting out encouragement while sitting astride his
mount (bike). I yelled back to him to ask why he wasn't running. Something about locking his running stuff in his Hartford office. I think we'll need
the whole story on that. It was also about this time that I noticed how hot was getting!!! Yuck!!! Anyway, I mananged to keep Ray and Gabe in sight for most of
the race (those heat uniforms are easy to see way out front). Other HEAT members out running the course where Rays wife and daughter (Nancy and Rebecca i
think), Gabes wife Jen, and mine (Janice) as well. I also saw Doug Lords wife Jane running in a bridesmaids dress. As the story goes - she's a bridemaid in
a wedding later the same day. All the women were participating in the race that morning, and it was quite a sight!!! Doug and his two kids were in attendance
and where heard cheering the rest of us on (thanks guys)!!! I don't remember the exact final times but it was something like this:
Gabe 18:20 - 1st in A.G. top 10 overall. Ray 19:19 - 5th in A.G. 22 overall. Me 20:16 - 1st in A.G. 33rd overall. Jen ? Janice 33:50 Nancy and Rebecca (38:39) I think we all had a good time and the cause is hard to beat!!!

It was a fun day out there today. It was good to see Gabe ( from behind ) out there and the rest of the HEATstrs. It was too bad Jamie couldn't run. Mike
thanks, but I missed the 20; I was 22nd with 19:19. I liked the uniform; it was the first time I'd run in it. And it was great to see all the women out
there doing it.
Good luck to eveyone racing tomorrow. Ray |

Nice job Heatsters!! Congratulations on beating the heat! Mike, did you actually ride home after that, or did you take a well-deserved ride home in the car. |

I got a few pictures at the Race for the Cure on Saturday morning; Gabe, Ray, and No Bike totally ripped up that race. They gave a great impression of the
team at the finish. All I could get was Mike's back he was going so fast!

Great showing at the race for the cure. I rode to the race with Gabe and locked my running gear in my law office! So I got a coffee and rode the race to
encourage friends, and then meet my kids for the mini races at 9:00 a.m. after the 5k. My 4 year old daughter did the 200 yard race and told her folks at the
end that "that was so long!" and my 6 year old son (and I) ran the 1k and he ran 99% of it at a good pace after of course going out like a rabbit in
the beginning.
This race grows every year and it is no wonder given the cause and the excellent layout after the race. Jamie |
