That is, if I do a tough 2 hr run today, when does my body actually feel the affects - that is my run will improve as a result of that 2 hr run- in days,
weeks? months? I've heard 3 weeks.

Are you asking how long to recover from a workout? If that's the case then I'm comfortable forcasting the answer with something like:
If it's a race - plan on 1 day of recovery for each mile run at race pace before you are fully recovered. So a 10K race would take about a week to recover if you go easy durring the week. If its a hard workout (85 to 90 percent race pace) then it should only take a day or two to recover. Not sure if this is what your asking about. |

No, I"m not worried about recovery...I wondering how the body /run improve after a tough/key session.

Long endurance improvement is a fairly long process, hence the reason why training for marathons and IM is measured in months. If you start from a point where
you already have a good endurance base, the sharpening process thru speed and tempo workouts can be dramatic in 6 weeks and noticeable in three. If you want to
know how long it will take from feeling comfortable running a tempo or race 10K to being comfortable running a similar tempo or race half marathon, I would
measure that in a couple months minimum unless you have been doing frequent long runs. Building your Max VO2 (new blood transport capillaries) versus building
new muscle is probably the better question and Max VO2 changes take weeks to months, while muscle repair and strengthening can be days to weeks. Use the
Triathletes Bible (Friel) and build a training program for a specific goal would be my recommendation.
