Don't forget to sign-up for the Healthnet Olympic Triathlon in Shelton on Saturday June 21st. Race and/or support the team as we try to defend the Club Championship title. In addtion to age group points, just finishing the race earns points. Also have awards for best uniform and tent.
Save $5 off by selecting HEAT on the registration.
Here are some details from the race director.

We all know the importance of club organization and team spirit, so this year we want to make Connecticut's USAT Club Championship one that will help your club grow and prosper with the sport. This year, the Health Net Triathlon in Shelton, CT on June 21 2008 has been selected as our state's club championship and I am writing to ask you to bring your entire club,
Kona veteran to Newbie, so we
can all help each other grow and build on the sport.
First - we really want to make this event one that you Club leaders can use to show your members "why you should join a triathlon club". So we are gearing the Health Net Triathlon towards Team spirit and camaraderie, not just for the number of podium wins and we have created special awards for the event. Besides becoming the USAT State Club Champion your team can win:
win the prize for the best decorated tent at the event
win the award of the most first time Olympic distance racers competing at the event
win the
prize of the most enthusiastic and vocal cheer leader squad
We encourage you to use this
event to come up with your own prizes to motivate and reward people at this early-middle part of
the season. There is plenty of space for your Club to your own gathering location, so bring
your banner and show your colors! We anticipate clubs will really "make camp"
for their members and their families, showing them the social-side of triathlon
(that there really is one! ;-)
Second - The first annual
"Triathlon Club Leadership Summit". Clubs are growing so fast, but all have the same
issues of schedule conflicts, how to attract new members and retain old ones, how to deal with
different ability levels within a club, how to get sponsorship, etc. To help us all deal
with these issues and learn from each other, we will be hosting a roundtable
discussion for all CT club leaders to share ideas, tips and tricks. If there is one thing your club does all year, it should be represented at this conference, for your benefit and the sport's!
We also want to invite all
racers and their families to our pre-event party dinner with special guest Olympian Sheila
Taormina. Sheila has an incredible story which includes going to two Olympics and now looking to
qualify for her third! If you have never heard an Olympian give a presentation, you
are missing something very special and here is your chance. Again, this is a
wonderful way to generate enthusiasm for your team and your family about our sport. Kids are especially moved by this. The event is to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley.
The race course itself is
exciting. The swim starts on a sandy beach in fresh and calm water. The bike course is one loop
along the Housatonic River with magnificent views with fast downhill, long flats and a few
climbs! Not boring by any means! The run has gentle rolling hills along the River
as well as flats. A classic Connecticut race!
Please email and let us know if your team can come to the race and if you will attend the Triathlon Summit.
Train hard and
safe!

Sadly I'm working until 2PM this Saturday, but good luck to everyone
racing. I saw a lot of Shoreline Guys at the Griskus last week so we should own the club rankings. Go HEAT!
