Okay, some details. Everyone in HEAT unies looked awesome out there. Its still the sharpest uniform in the field, and everyone who wore it that I saw did it proud. Pugmire was sick on the bike...5:44 on that course? In a downpour? Are you kidding me?
Of course with rain comes flats and I got mine. I was prepared for this, having even changed a flat on a century ride with Doug in May. But this day, my hands were so cold I fumbled the CO2 and could only fill the tube half way. BUT, I ran into Miro, who was gracious enought to add about 3 minutes to his own finish time to let me use his hand pump to fill my tire. If it was not for him, I doubt I would have made it into town where my other tubes and cartridges were located. A HUGE hat tip to Miro for the sportsmanship and teamwork. I only hope I can someday return the favor.
Doug was genuinely thrilled to have accomplished the race. He and I ran most of Nutmeg together last year, and it was incredible to think how far he and I came in less than a year to finish where we did in our first Ironman. I could see in his girlfriend's face how proud she was of him. Or maybe she was just happy he might stop talking about Ironman now...no...probably not.
I wish I had a chance to talk to ALL the HEATSTERS after the race, but I was pretty much getting hypothermic, and had to leave soon after finishing. I hope we can all catch up at future races or rides/runs and share some war stories. I know that on an epic day like that (really, it rained a LOT) there are bound to be many. And I hope to see many of you again up there next year.
Of course, I get back to town today to reality, which includes me getting shut out at Cranberry (I did get on the wait list, so we will see).
On to Nutmeg (btw, I saw on John Hirsh's blog that Mandy is okay. To bad she tumbled. She was having an incredible day).

. I've done some
yoga, some spinning, and a lot of yardwork and messing around with the kids. It feels really WEIRD not to be training. On Monday and Tuesday it was hardest to
get up and down stairs or moving too quickly out of a stationary position. And my turned ankle swelled up some. I was really jonesing for a tri this weekend, I
tell ya. There's probably folks out there who can hit it hard the next day, but that ain't me. I know I saw a *lot* of runners, swimmers and bikers in
LP the next day, though I don't know if any of them did the race the day before.
Any who care to read the RR should be able
to now. Maybe see you Friday.
