I raced the Hebron 5k on Saturday 19th. Perfect day for a race, sunny and close to 70 at race time. Per my training plan I did a 20 min ride as part of my
warm up and then 1 mi on RHAM HS track w/ some pickups. I headed out with the lead group and I heard a few guys behind saying that "They are are going
out way too hard." Briefly I second guessed myself and figured they'd be passing me near the end. I was able to stay with the lead group, shoulder
to shoulder with the leader until just past the 1.5 mi point when two guys passed us. One guy dropped back on a hill right about the 2 mi point and I was able
to stay with the leader. Then we had to cross a major road and one of the troopers wasn't ready to do traffic.
The lead car and I hestiated a bit while the trooper got set. The leader went around the car safely staying on the side of the road until the trooper had traffic stopped so he could cross. I followed the lead car acrossed the road and that's where I lost contact with the leader. He ended up beating me by 18 seconds. I had nothing left to try and close the gap on him. I later learned he has won the race in the past. I am very happy with 2nd place and I took another 7 seconds off of my 5k PR
After that is was
shuttling kids around to different activities, so we were unable to get over to Winding Trails.
