On Oct 21st I competed in my first ever IM. I arrived at the race site around 6:00 a.m. and to my surprise I was pretty calm. The forcast was calling for a very hot and humid day in the mid 90s. The swim was a 2 loop course which started with a running beach start. The water was very warm, but dark you couldn't see more than a couple of feet beneath the surface. My goal was to come out of the water in under 1:20. By the time I reached the 2nd bouy the field had thinned out. I exited...

Cool start but warmed up after mile one. Over 2000 runners in the half this year. The day began with 1 mile bike ride to the start from my Hotel (where the folks next door to me partied loudly (to bad music no less) until 2:00 a.m.). At 6:00 a.m. it is was pitch dark. I road in blustering wind and steady rain. At the transition area, it did not get much better. The racers, some 400-600, huddled in a large tent, which shook in the howling wind.
Well we raced on Sat. morning under "COLD! clear skies. The race had 4 waves which were ordered (at least somewhat) by your race number (numbers were assigned by when you registered) with 2 minutes between waves. This was a little confusing because some people with high numbers also went out in the first wave as ELITE. The only reason I'm bringing this up is because I don't believe the timer applied the wave start differential to the results, thus the results look very strange to me....
